CDLF Partner with Legions Gym & Al Chambers
19 April 2023
We could not do the work we do without our partners. We are delighted to announce a new partnership, with Al Chambers and Legions Gym.
Details below.
Al has been involved in Combat sports for over 25 years, he has trained and competed in Muay Thai, Boxing and MMA.
Over 12 years ago he started Legions Gym alongside Dave Phillips. It’s started out as a small Muay Thai Gym with the aim of providing a no nonsense place for people to train and compete.
Since then the gym has evolved into the best combat gym in the city. It has active fight teams in Boxing with Ash Martin and Muay Thai run by Dave that compete from grass roots level to international competition.
Only about 10% of the gym membership compete, the majority come training at Legions for the quality coaching, support and atmosphere the gym provides. It is a safe space for any ability and has members from 4 years old to 72 years young.
If you come along and put the work in you will be well looked after and fully supported to reach the best you can be whatever the goals.
Al has focused a lot of his attention on helping people with issues around mental health and support for social groups who would struggle to access this type of training.
The gym has partnered with local charities and organisations to facilitate this. These include CDLF, The Island, Menfulness, Danesgate Community and the NHS. This is a big part of what we do at Legions.
Al’s own life experiences has led him to see the value in proper Mental Health support and how valuable it can be, especially when it is combined with physical training in a positive community.
He trained over 4 years to become a therapeutic counsellor and now provides sessions;
Face to face in his counselling room.
Walk and talk therapy.
Online and telephone sessions
He can also offer the unique approach of Boxing Therapy, this is not available anywhere else in the city.
Al has a special interest in Trauma and helping people progress in their lives on from whatever issues and situations they have faced.
