CDLF, a mental health charity dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging others to speak out about their own struggles, was set up after Charlie died in 2020, on what would have been his 39th birthday.

Afterwards his two sisters, partner and four friends set up the charity in order to continue his work and the legacy he left behind

The charity was established in May 2021 with the aim of aiding individuals in need by financing therapy and counselling sessions, thereby enabling them to access the assistance they required. CDLF hosts annual charity balls with the dual purpose of generating funds not only for their own charity but also for supporting other organisations that also provide mental health support and services.

Nearly 250 people gathered at York Racecourse for this year’s event which was once again sponsored by York-based housebuilder Persimmon raising £24,000 for mental health charities and support services.

“The majority of the funds we have raised will be used to support our boards which signpost people to help, and the rest will be spent on our third parties which provide counselling and help directly to people in need.”

Scott Waters, managing director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Charlie was a popular, well-known figure in the local business community as well as an active fundraiser himself.

In December the CDLF made 4 large donations to some fantastic charities to support and shine a light on for their incredible work. Here is more about the charities we chose…..

@ripplesuicideprevention

R;pple is an interceptive tool designed to present a visual prompt when a person searches for harmful keywords or phrases relating to the topic of self-harm or suicide.

At R;pple, they are dedicated to intercepting harmful content related to self-harm and suicide through innovative technology. There mission is fuelled by the personal experience of our founder, Alice Hendy, who tragically lost her only sibling, Josh, to suicide. Josh was 21.

Josh had been searching for techniques to take his own life through harmful internet searches. Witnessing the lack of appropriate support available online, Alice was inspired to take action.

@carecent

Carecent is a breakfast centre for all homeless, unemployed or otherwise socially excluded members of our community.

They provide food, clothing and fellowship in a friendly and non-judgemental environment. There volunteer staff are always ready to listen and offer support and advice where possible. Where appropriate, they work with other agencies in order to move people forward to an improved lifestyle.

Carecent is open to people aged 18+ six mornings a week – Monday to Saturday

@sashyorks

SASH is a youth homelessness charity that works across York, North and East Yorkshire.

They help young people aged 16-25 who are facing homelessness.

They do not run a hostel or own any property. The accommodation they offer is through their Nightstop and Supported Lodgings services, which rely on volunteer ‘hosts’ who offer a spare room in their own home. The services are as much about supporting young people to resolve the problems which have led to them becoming homeless as they are about putting a roof over their head.

Last but not least our 4th chosen charity we donated to in December..

@the_hut_york

The Hut York is a members-led charity, bringing creativity and purpose to the lives of adults with their mental health journeys, and/or learning disabilities. Supporting individuals, both long and short term.

They are here to provide purposeful and meaningful workshops, sessions and activities, designed by our members.

They work to coach, guide and support you on daily Lifeskills – problem solving, thinking critically and creatively, communicating effectively, building healthy relationships and coping with everyday tasks.

Its a night that has become a firm engagement for the supporters of CDLF. A date that everyone has marked in their calendars, and as with our previous ball a huge success. On Saturday 7th October 180 guests packed into the Ebor Suite at York Racecourse the fizz flowed and the laughter did too.

The ball has always been and will always be about raising awareness of the work that CDLF do, but it is also the coming together and celebrating all the work that Charlie did during his life. We always aim for the night to be filled with laughter and love and we have no doubt that this was achieved this year!

The ball is hosted by our partners at Menfullness, Jack, Matty and Sam who always just hit the note just right discussing a very heart-breaking but real subject.

Monies raised on the night totalled £16,163 this will be put directly to helping those in need.

Thank you for all who came, supported and donated we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

the ultimate accolade of ‘maximum points’. This year, grading was carried out by Phil Garrod, Chris Slee, and Marita
Tauni, all respected breeders themselves who have undergone training with Oberwalliser Schwarznasen
Schafzuchtverband, the Swiss Upper Valais Sheep Breeders Association. 190 animals were graded of which the high
accolade of maximum points was awarded to 11% of the overall entries.
The highest-graded sheep were eligible for Saturday’s competition and those gathered were able to witness the finest
sheep in the UK compete for the coveted title of 2023 Blacknose Beauties Supreme Champion. The event was streamed
live for enthusiasts worldwide who could not attend.
Jackie and Jack Simonini of Valais Blacknose Sheep Lakeland were awarded their first Overall Supreme Champion title
with their 2-year-old ewe, Moorahill Ingot, who was also the Female Champion. Overall Reserve Champion went to Tom
and Joan Blackwood of the Ayrshire flock with their 23-month-old ewe, Ayrshire Ingrid, who was also the Reserve
Female Champion. Overall Male Champion went to Valerie Cartner with her 18-month-old ram, Blackwoodridge Jack,
and Reserve Male Champion was awarded to Gerallt and Kerry Jones with their 17-month-old ram, Snowdonia Jago.
The ever-popular Young Handlers competitions attracted 24 entries across both classes. The age 8 and under young
handler class was won by Penny Wood of Valais Blacknose Northumberland with the best young handler aged 9 and
over being awarded to Izzy Jacobsen of Valais Blacknose Kinneff.
During this year’s event, the Society raised funds for the Charlie Dallas Lancaster Foundation (C.D.L. Foundation), which
help and supports organisations and individuals working within the Mental Health and Suicide prevention sphere. All
proceeds from the annual raffle, 25% of sales from the VBS 2023 calendar, and donations made through the local crook
markers stall were donated directly to the charity. Additionally, there was an auction of two Valais Blacknose lambs
that took place, with breeders generously donating all proceeds to the charity. These lambs were from the prizewinning flocks of Valais Blacknose Sheep Northumberland and Valais Blacknose Sheep Cheshire. The Society is delighted
to have raised a total of £8,000 for the C.D.L. Foundation.
Saturday’s action culminated with the live and online sale where 31 lots were sold. The top price went to Steve Dace of
Valais Blacknose Sheep Cheshire whose 2-year-old ram, Cheshire Incredible Hulk, sold for a record-breaking 18,000gns
to Iwan White Evans of Vale View Valais Blacknose. The second highest price was 7.000gns, which was paid by Richard
Beattie from Omagh, Co Tyrone, for Valerie Cartner’s Champion Male, Blackwoodridge Jack.
Daisy Fovargue’s Blackthorn Jackpot James was sold to T Patchett of Northallerton for 5,000gns, Heather Adams’s
Deepdale Jammy Dodger was sold to S Robinson, Mosterlon, Dorset and Deepdale Jewel was sold to Henry & Emily
Duncan, Whitehall Valais Blacknose, Dumfries at 4,500gns. The highest price for a female lot was achieved by Emily &
Henry Duncan of Whitehall Valais Blacknose with their lamb Whitehall Kaleidoscope selling at 6,000gns to Irene Gray,
Diamond Valais Blacknose, Co Antrim. Alex Burch’s in-lamb ewe, Birchfield Innocent, was sold for 2,800gns to Matthew
Morrow, from Co Tyrone.
To close, VBS Chairman Raymond Irvine added:
“These past few days have been incredible, and our show was a huge success! The animals on display were of the
highest quality, a true testament to the dedication and hard work of all the breeders who spent months preparing their
sheep for the event. It was also heartening to witness a record number of entries in our Young Handler section, and we
hope that the younger members of our community will continue to show such enthusiasm. Finally, capping off the day
with a new sales breed record was the perfect way to end things”.
He says…”A lot of effort and planning is involved in organising this event, and we appreciate the backing of our
sponsors, participants, volunteers, and attendees who make it a remarkable occasion in the Valais Blacknose schedule.
It’s delightful to see both old and new breeders come together, and all of them are dedicated to breeding the finest. I
want to extend my congratulation to every participant of this year’s event, and we’re excited to build upon this triumph
and have everyone back in 2024.”

Gemma JustGiving Page read.

“The Charlie Dallas Lancaster Foundation was created in the memory of a wonderful man, Charlie Lancaster. He was my partner, my best friend, and the person I would have happily spent the rest of my life with. He was a cheeky, kind man with a thirst for life and who was loved by so many. Sadly, in 2020 his battle with his own mental health was all too much and it took him away from us.The foundation was set up to raise awareness and to allow the provision of much needed help and support to organisations and individuals working within the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention sphere.

Charlie was the person who would always push me and those around him to step out of their comfort zone, and this couldn’t be further out of mine!

If you would like to support me, the foundation, or simply want to nudge me out of a plane then please dig deep and donate! However small, all donations are greatly appreciated. They will go directly towards helping anyone struggling with their own mental health and so their loved ones won’t be in the same position that we have found ourselves ❤”
